Welcome to YDC

The Youth Development Center (YDC) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire, equip, and guide urban youth to LIVE!  From our facility in the northeast sector of Houston, the program serves children from the Fifth Ward, Kashmere Gardens, Trinity Gardens and North Forest areas.

Currently, YDC operates an after-school academic program that addresses literacy development for inner city students in grades 3 – 8.  During the past three years, YDC students have improved their reading skills an average of at least two grade levels each year.  While this program focuses on enhancing literacy skills, it also builds self esteem and promotes character development in our economically disadvantaged students.  Improved literacy and leadership skills encourage our students to continue their education, become positive role models, and look forward to a future of constructive contribution to the larger Houston community.

As the YDC after-school program has grown in students and achievement, it has become apparent that students need the opportunity to grow in an educational environment where remediation is not a necessity.  Every child deserves the opportunity to receive an education that is preparation for success in life.
